Liz Mullen

1904, A Moment from Elizabeth Mullen's Story

Elizabeth Mullen's grandmother, Catherine McCarron was born to Mary Elizabeth Donahue and John McCarron on January 12, 1904. Catherine was born a second- generation San Franciscan, in the Outer Richmond district, at 332 Eighth Avenue at Point Lobos (later to become Geary Street). She attended Star of the Sea school, and was a parishioner there. Her father owned J.M. Liquors, a saloon at Ninth and Point Lobos, and Catherine started serving beer at the age of five (which was one of her favorite stories).

Liz especially remembers her grandmother as she was the one who initially got her interested in researching her family and their long connection to San Francisco. Her many stories enliven Liz's memory today.
