Omar Khalif

2006, A Moment from Omar Khalif's Story

Asked by District Attorney Kalmala Harris to step up for his community, Omar Khalif ran for the San Francisco Board of Education for the first time in 2006. Humbled and touched at being chosen a community leader, Omar ran a campaign that has led to his further involvement in educational issues. Once a skeptic of Public Education, so familiar with its failings every day in his work in juvenile probation, Omar has forged ahead to become a strong advocate of public schools. "Today's students are not divided by ethnicity and race," he says. "They are all so connected vis the Internet — this is the melting pot, they are now all American."
